As one of more than 1,000 Community Action Agencies nationwide, Downeast Community Partners (DCP) is celebrating Community Action Month. Community Action began in 1964 as part of President Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty under the Economic Opportunity Act. The goals of Community Action—to help individuals and families achieve economic security, to build healthy communities, and to encourage people to become active in their communities—have not changed in 58 years.

“Community Action changes people’s lives, brings hope, and improves communities. At DCP, we put the communities of Hancock and Washington counties at the center of our commitment to build and strengthen their capacity for financial stability through our diverse resources and supports,” said DCP Executive Director Rebecca Palmer.

Given that the need for Community Action is as great as ever, DCP remains committed to providing services and opportunities that improve the quality of life and reduce the impact of poverty in Downeast communities.

If you would like to support DCP in its mission by donating your time or resources, contact Development Director Sharon Catus at (207) 610-5944.
