Breakthrough Youth
Introduction
Breakthrough Youth is a program that addresses fundamental skills teenagers and young adults ages 14-24 need as they develop into adult-life. It promotes success through financial and family-relationship skill building, while navigating the natural consequences of choices we make.
While originally written and promoted as curriculum for school-based learning, Downeast Community Partners is offering it to the community so it may help youth and young adults make more informed and deliberate decisions regarding their financial and family choices.
The 25 session program is broken down into four modules: Prime for Life, Money Smart, Soft Skills to Pay the Bills, and Making Proud Choices.
Prime for Life seeks to reduce problems related to high-risk alcohol and drug choices.
Money Smart can help people of all ages enhance their financial skills and create positive banking relationships.
Soft Skills to Pay the Bills focuses on teaching "soft" or workforce readiness skills to youth, including youth with disabilities.
Making Proud Choices provides adolescents with the knowledge, confidence and skills necessary to reduce their risk of sexually transmitted diseases (STIs), HIV and pregnancy by abstaining from sex or using condoms if they choose to have sex.
