Message regarding Head Start
Dear Head Start and Early Head Start Families,
We are writing to let you know that, effective June 30, 2025, Downeast Community Partners (DCP) will be stepping away from its role as the Head Start and Early Head Start provider for Hancock and Washington counties. This was a difficult and thoughtful decision made by our Board of Directors and leadership team after careful consideration of what is best for our organization and the families we serve.
Beginning July 1, 2025, the Aroostook County Action Program (ACAP) will take over as the interim Head Start grantee, as designated by the Office of Head Start (OHS). ACAP is an experienced provider of early childhood education services and is well-prepared to ensure that your children continue to receive the same level of care, learning, and support you have come to expect.
We want to reassure you that there will be no interruption in services for your children or families. All classrooms and programs will remain open and operating as usual. You will still see many of the same faces, as most of DCP’s staff will continue to be present and committed to your children’s success during this transition.
It has truly been an honor and a privilege to serve our Downeast communities through the Head Start and Early Head Start programs. We are deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in us and the opportunity to be a part of your children’s earliest years of growth and learning. To our dedicated staff, our supportive community partners, and most especially to you—our families—thank you for making this journey so meaningful.
If you have any questions or concerns during this time, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
