Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Drivers Needed!

Be a part of providing essential transportation for your neighbors. 

  • Help transport residents of Hancock and Washington counties to medical appointments and local shopping trips.
  • Get reimbursed up to $0.50 per mile, nontaxable.

Requirements

  • Complete training as provided.
  • Must pass background checks.

This position is paid a bi-weekly stipend.

Climate Corps members will engage in Energy Education, Outreach, Home Energy Conservation and Management. A portion of members’ time will be spent leading community outreach through conducting workshops in Hancock & Washington County.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Members will learn how to repair a variety of housing types including but not limited to manufactured housing, single family, duplex and small rental type housing.
  • Members will learn about heating systems and various other mechanical electrical plumbing (MEP) systems  
  • Members will develop a full understanding of the positive impact of Energy Efficiency (EE) by observing DCP’s weatherization crews, assisting low-income households with services designed to improve the energy efficiency of residents’ homes, reduce usage and costs, and safeguard the health and safety of low-income homeowners.
  • Members will assist DCP Housing staff in collecting energy usage information from those we serve before, and after, weatherization. Members will be given the opportunity to learn various software programs.
  • Members will learn about essential energy auditing skills in compliance with Maine Housing and Maine Uniform Building and Energy Codes.
  • Members will provide energy education and outreach workshops in both Hancock and Washington counties. Members will be given the chance to produce a “how to” video in lieu of direct appearances in communities that do not wish to engage in person for a workshop. Also, members will create a “day in the life of a CC volunteer” video.
  • Members may be guided to analyze the data collected and make suggestions on ways to better synthesize our processes around data collection and analyzation.
  • Members will have the opportunity to test for, and achieve, BSP, BAT and BAP certifications (Building Science Principles, Building Analyst Technician, Building Analyst Professional).
  • Members may perform other duties as assigned by their supervisor.

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:

  • General knowledge and ability to operate basic hand tools and testing equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to visit homes.
  • Strong computer and software skills.
  • Ability to interact and engage the public in conversation and workshops.
  • Strong attention to detail skills required.

EDUCATION/SKILL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • High School Diploma required. Associates Degree preferred.
  • Construction experience preferred.
  • Valid Maine Driver’s License, Vehicle Registration, and proof of car insurance.
  • Must be able to pass background checks.
