LD 3 Home Energy Assistance Supplemental Benefits Exhausted

Tue, Mar 28th, 2023

by DCP Staff

In January, MaineHousing began delivering the $40 million Home Energy Assistance Program Supplemental from the Legislature’s LD3 funding.  Within the following four weeks all HEAP recipients that had already received a benefit received a duplicate supplemental benefit.  MaineHousing then issued a duplicate supplemental benefit moving forward as HEAP recipients received their benefit.

There has been a large increase in households applying and receiving benefits this program year. MaineHousing and its Community Action Agency (CAA) partners, including Downeast Community Partners, have already served 30%, or over 9,000 more households than we had at this point in last year’s program.

This has caused the delivery of the $40 million Home Energy Assistance Program Supplemental LD3 funding to occur at an expedited rate. With this being the case, the funding has been exhausted and no additional State Supplemental new benefits will be paid out.
