Downeast Community Partners is seeking a full-time Assistant Preschool Teacher, 40 Hours per week, 51-weeks per year.

Job Description:

·       Responsible for assisting the preschool teacher in planning and implementing an early childhood education program for children in accordance with agency practices, policies, and procedures.

·       Responsible for promoting school readiness, parent engagement and ensuring the health and safety of children in our care.

·       Performs under the direction of the preschool teacher to ensure program operations are performed in a manner supportive of the agency goals and intended program outcomes.

Required Education and Experience:

·       Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent. 

·       1 year of experience in a preschool classroom setting required.

Location: Washington and Hancock counties

This is a contracted professional position providing social emotional mental health consultation in Early Head Start and Head Start sites. The primary population is young children ages six weeks to age five, their teachers and caregivers. The person in this position functions with a great deal of professional independence under the general guidance and supervision of the EHS/HS Director with additional support from the Education and Disability Managers. Must demonstrate a collaborative approach to all services involving staff, parents, and other providers as a team.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Providing programmatic consultation to staff regarding social emotional development
  • Individual consultation with a child centered approach for those children exhibiting behavioral challenges or social emotional delay
  • in-service MH professional development, and hands on support and strategies to teachers in the classroom

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Master’s Degree (MA/MSW) in Social Work, Psychology, or other related field of study
  • State of Maine licensure as an LLMSW, LMSW or LLP preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of post-master’s experience working with infants and young children and families
  • Experience in early care and education settings preferred

Location: Ellsworth

 Do you love to cook? Here is an exciting opportunity to work with staff and children in an early education center providing nutritious meals and nutrition materials and activities to children and families. The Food Service Technician is responsible to the Center Coordinator for planning, coordinating, purchasing and cooking meals and snacks for enrolled children on a daily basis. Works closely with supervisor to ensure operations are carried out in a manner supportive to the center. 

 

Work hours must be flexible to accommodate changing program needs.

 

Position is full-time substitute until early November and then full-time permanent as of January 1, 2021.

Location: Hancock and Washington counties

We are seeking part-time drivers for Hancock and Washington counties. We provide transportation to low-income, elderly, as well as the general public. Our vehicles are easy to operate and require no special license, just a good driving record and a desire to provide safe and pleasant transportation to the people we serve. Flexible schedules available.

Candidate must have clean driving record, pass criminal and child protective background checks, meet drug and alcohol testing requirements, and not have an active record on the System for Award Management (SAM) website.

Location: Deer Isle/Stonington

We have an immediate need for a Program Aide at the Deer Isle/Stonington Early Care and Education Center, located at the Deer Isle/Stonington Elementary School.  Responsibilities include working with children in a classroom setting, and providing additional support to the teaching staff.  This is a part-time position, 15 hours/week.

Must be at least 18 years of age and have a High School diploma or equivalent and have prior experience working with preschool aged children.

Location: Trenton

 We have an immediate need for a Program Aide located at the Trenton Elementary School.  Responsibilities include working with children in a classroom setting, and providing additional support to the teaching staff.  This is a part-time position, 15 hours/week.

Must be at least 18 years of age, and have a High School diploma or equivalent.  Have prior experience working with preschool aged children.

Location: Calais

We have an immediate need for a Program Aide at the St. Croix Early Care and Education Center, located on the campus of Washington County Community College.  Responsibilities include working with children in a classroom setting, and providing additional support to the teaching staff.  This is a temporary part-time position, 20 hours/week.

Must be at least 18 years of age and have a High School diploma or equivalent and have prior experience working with preschool aged children.

Working with individuals and families who are economically vulnerable to provide assistance and support in managing the challenges they are experiencing.  The position will offer support in an effort to empower families to achieve the growth and change they seek.  It will include assisting participants working on many different areas of life depending on the needs.  The position is based in Washington County and includes extensive travel throughout the county.

Required skills/duties include:

  • A strong desire to help families, meet them where they are at, and assist in barrier removal
  • Coach the family/individual to develop skills in independent problem solving and functioning and discover their strengths, hopes, dreams, and priorities. 
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills including dependability, motivation, and flexibility
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Very good time management skills

Education/Experience required:

  • The successful candidate will have a 4 year degree in Social Work or a related field
  • At least one year’s experience in human services is preferred.

Must have reliable transportation.

The Head Start provider for Hancock and Washington counties is seeking enthusiastic substitutes for our Early Childhood Programs in Calais, Ellsworth, and Machias.

Responsibilities:

Location: Machias

The Weatherization Technician works as a part of the weatherization team, based out of Machias, installing measures designed to improve the energy efficiency of homes.

Responsibilities:

Performs direct service installs, including installation of home weatherization materials, minor carpentry repairs, repairs to stop cold air infiltration, and associated record keeping.

Qualifications - Required

·       HS diploma or equivalent

·       Clean Driving Record (Valid Maine Driver’s License/Driving Record)

·       Pass a criminal background check

·       Effective in a teamwork environment and committed to safety

·       Familiarity with construction power tools and basic knowledge of residential dwellings and basic building science.

·       Some overnight travel may be required within Hancock and Washington counties
