Downeast Community Partners is seeking an Accounting Manager to work from their Ellsworth, Maine office.
Requirements of the Accounting Manager:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in an accounting role with increasing responsibility and scope.
- Proven knowledge and experience with all aspects of accounting (AP, AR, account reconciliation, general ledger). Knowledge of Federal/State program funding contracts and compliance helpful.
- Demonstrated success documenting and improving processes and creating efficiencies in accounting workflows.
- Ability to lead and manage staff of 3 to meet organizational requirements for timely and accurate reporting, month-end close and compliance.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience working with accounting software (DCP uses Abilia’s/MIP). Advanced skills with Excel. Strong understanding of using technology to improve processes and the ability to help others use technology to improve their workflows and support decision making.
Benefits of the Job:
- Full-time, exempt position with pay between $70,000 and $80,000 per year, depending on experience.

Responsibilities of the Accounting Manager:
- Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role is responsible for creating a strong accounting department foundation to ensure timely and accurate accounting to meet internal and external reporting and audit requirements. As a strong foundation is built, this role will have more opportunity to partner with the Director, Financial Analyst, leaders and managers on budgeting, planning, and other organization initiatives.
- Document current departmental processes and identify process improvements and efficiencies to optimize finance department workflows, delivery of service to internal department managers and leaders, and implement sound internal controls to protect the organization. Bring understanding of required process inputs and department outputs to develop effective workflows in partnership with process stakeholders.
- Oversee staff performing all accounting and payroll functions to ensure work is done timely and accurately and provide coaching and feedback as needed to support performance.
- Ensure that financial reporting is prepared timely and in accordance with GAAP, and that all contract reporting is completed in compliance with program regulations (e.g. Uniform Guidance 2 CFR 200, Uniform Guidance 2 CFR 75 and Maine Auditing and Accounting Principles (MAAP)).
- Review and approve General Ledger journal entries and reconciliations. Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including cash accounts and submit to Finance Director for review and approval.
- Assist Finance Director with annual budgeting and audit process.

Pay Range - $16.27 - $18.72 per hour
DCP is seeking a full-time Administrative Assistant II to work in its transportation department. This position provides general support to the Transportation Department with compliance, preparation of reports, cross training and assisting the Transportation Director with day-to-day functions of the department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for ensuring Transportation Department compliance with brokerage, state and federal laws, rules, and guidelines. Stays ahead of compliance requirements with Complicore. Ensures Drivers (Staff and Volunteers) are compliant with vehicle inspections, insurance cards, registrations, and license requirement. Ensures drivers remain compliant with all required trainings.
- Responsible for processing reports, or collecting data, as required.
- Is a back up to all office staff functions including Intake, Dispatch and Fleet Coordinator including proficiency in the respective software platforms. Trains new hire office staff.
- Responsible for following the new hire process (for Staff and Volunteers) by collecting and processing all required documents. Ensures all required new hire training is completed.
- Responsible for scheduling new hire and random drug and/or alcohol screenings in a timely basis as required for new hires or requested by Human Resources.
- Reports vehicle accidents promptly to supervisor, Executive Director and Human Resources Director as required. Completes initial accident report as needed.
- Assists drivers with directions, breakdowns, and emergency situations as needed.
- Reports employee accidents, incidents, or injuries to the Human Resources Director.
- Responsible for the DHHS, low income and TAP programs by receiving the application, determining eligibility, entering data, and maintaining client files.
- Notifies drivers of all Transportation and agency policy changes.
- Follows procedures defined by Transportation division.
- Performs functions of specific activities and projects as assigned by Transportation Director.
- Performs general office duties as required.
- Maintains positive internal and external customer service daily.

The Ellsworth Early Care and Education Center, located on Avery Lane, is seeking an assistant preschool teacher. This is a 40-hour-per-week full year position.
Responsibilities:
- Assists the preschool teacher to plan and implement an early childhood education program for children in accordance with agency practices, policies and procedures.
- Responsible for promoting school readiness, parent engagement and ensuring the health and safety of children in our care.
- Performs under the direction of the preschool teacher to ensure program operations are carried out in a manner supportive of the agency goals and intended program outcomes.
Education and Experience:
- Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of experience in a preschool classroom setting required

Pay Range - $16.69 - $17.50 per hour
DCP is seeking a full-time Early Care and Education Center Assistant. The Center assistant is responsible for assisting Head Start center staff with data entry, monitoring and management of data systems, reporting any missing or inaccurate data to CAMs, Center Coordinators and ECE director, inputting and uploading information into the electronic records system, obtaining releases, and follow up on releases and requested health information. The Center Assistant is also responsible for following up on nutrition plans, labs, immunizations, outside agency plans for children, assisting with hearing and vision screenings, tracking and conducting any follow up from these screenings, such as releases for health providers to ensure follow up occurred and requesting records to document follow up, performing and uploading quarterly health and safety checking, training new staff on basics related to their role in child plus and other data systems, and conducting retraining when needed. When asked, the center assistant will be responsible for creating repair requests and ordering supplies as needed. The Center Assistant may be asked to perform other duties as needed, as assigned by supervisor.

- Experience in data entry and data management
- Be flexible and able to work with and maintain positive relationships with multiple staff members.
- Ability to manage being given direction and tasks from multiple people

Infant/Toddler Caregiver for the Ellsworth Early Care & Education Program, located at 18 Avery Lane.
This is a full-time year round position.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for developing meaningful relationships with parents and their young children that will enhance the bond between parent and child.
- Also responsible to plan and implement, in partnership with families, a responsive curriculum and classroom environment that promotes optimal growth and development of infants and toddlers in a full-day, full-year program.
- Must have at least 12 months experience working with infants/toddlers in a childcare facility.

DCP has a janitorial position available at the Flaherty Center—116 O’Brien Avenue, Machias. This is a year-round position, 10 hours per week.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform janitorial, maintenance and yard work functions at the Early Care and Education Center daily. Work needs to be completed after childcare service hours.
- Perform a thorough cleaning of the agency facility including classrooms, hallways, and entrance.
- Gather and dispose of trash.
- Wet mop, buff, strip, wax, and polish floors as needed.
- Clean and disinfect bathrooms.
- Shampoo rugs and furniture as directed by supervisor.
- Clean vents, fixtures and high dust windows and doorframes
- Move furniture and other heavy objects as required.
- Performs daily inspection of the facility and grounds for health, safety, and hazardous conditions. Reports findings to the center coordinator
- Maintain an adequate supply of cleaning products and paper goods in coordination with center coordinator.
- Other duties as assigned by the center coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma and work experiences related to facility upkeep and maintenance.
- Must pass background checks.

This position offers a sign on bonus of $1,000 paid in two lump sums; half after 90 days of work and the other half after 120 days of work.
We are seeking part-time drivers in the following areas Machias, Milbridge, Calais, Eastport, and Ellsworth. We provide transportation for low-income people, the elderly, as well as the general public.
Our vehicles are easy to operate and require no special license, just a good driving record and a desire to provide safe and pleasant transportation to the people we serve.

DCP is seeking a full-time Preschool Teacher to work at our Flaherty Early Childhood Education Center in Machias. The Preschool Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing an early childhood education program for preschool children in accordance with agency policies, procedures, and practices. The Preschool Teacher is also responsible for promoting school readiness, parent engagement and ensuring the health and safety of children in our care. The Preschool Teacher performs under the direction of the Center Coordinator or Teacher III to ensure program operations are carried out in a manner supportive of DCP goals and intended program outcomes and performs other duties as assigned by supervisor. Some evening and weekend work, travel and occasional overnight travel will be necessary.

DCP is seeking a Program Aide to work at the Bucksport Early Care and Education Center. Responsibilities include working with children in a classroom setting, and providing additional support to the teaching staff. This is a part-time position, 15 hours/week.
Must be at least 18 years of age, and have a High School diploma or equivalent and have prior experience working with preschool-aged children.

This position has a $500 sign-on bonus paid after 90 days of employment
Full-Time Position
Pay Range - $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
DCP is seeking a flexible, creative, and patient Ed Tech III to work with children in our preschool program! This position will work in collaboration with the classroom teachers and provide classroom support to children of all abilities.
This is a 6 hour a day, 30 hour a week, academic year, benefits eligible position located at our St. Croix Early Care and Education Center on the WCCC campus.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Providing instruction or program modifications to children identified with developmental disabilities under the direction of a teacher
- Supervising small groups of students in a center-based program.
- Conducting one-on-one or small groups with indirect professional supervision
- Introducing new learning, pre-planned in collaboration with a Special Education Teacher and/or Disability Services Manager.

DCP is seeking a part-time program aide to assist teaching staff in carrying out group and individual activities in the early childhood development program. This position must also carry out all duties in a manner supportive of the Executive Director’s administration of Downeast Community Partners.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Becomes familiar with the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional characteristics of individual children.
- Guides children through daily routines, creating a safe, healthy environment while providing experiences that build children’s enthusiasm and self-esteem for learning.
- Participates in curriculum development as directed.
- Assists staff in involving parents in the program and participates in parent involvement activities when appropriate.
- Assists in handling special care concerns relating to preschoolers as directed.
- Participates in basic nutrition and sanitation activities as directed.

DCP is seeking to hire a full-time Staff Accountant. The Staff Accountant position provides support for the CFO, and Senior Leadership in accordance with established fiscal procedures. This position works regularly with internal fiscal and programmatic staff, and Senior Leadership. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for DCP’s Accounts Receivable processes, DCP’s Insurance renewal application preparation, assisting in the preparation of monthly and quarterly contract financial reports as needed, calculating quarterly PTO liabilities, maintaining a variety of spreadsheets key to the operations of multiple DCP Departments. This position serves a backup role for the Accounts Payable and Payroll Fiscal Specialists during their absences.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works closely with other Agency Departments to ensure accurate coding and billing of invoices.
- In cooperation with the CACFP (Child and Adult Food Program) Manager, ensures the accuracy of the monthly transfer & processing of the CACFP via a 3rd party software program and the AP module of the accounting software.
- Calculates and enters Agency’s quarterly PTO liability into General Ledger.
- Maintains AR Module of the accounting software through accurate entry of Client data, monthly reconciliation of AR balances to actual.
- Accurately enters Agency’s contract payments, childcare parent fee activities, and other agency revenues into the accounting software.
- Prepares contract related billings and submits to respective agencies (i.e., Maine Housing, CSBG).
- Initiates Head Start funds drawdown from Federal Payment System after CFO provides amount of funds to request.
- Maintains the Agency’s Childcare Payment log for shared use by teachers and the Enrollment Specialist for the ECE Department.
- Monitors and addresses overdue childcare accounts. Works with parents in establishing Payment Arrangements to get unpaid balances back to current status.
- Calculates and prepares timely billings to DHHS for childcare subsidies, tracks Agency internal childcare subsidies.
- Participates in annual audit and/or funder monitoring as needed by CFO.
- Assists CFO in various aspects of annual budget creation and entry into General Ledger.
- Tracks and verifies Childcare Parent travel subsidies.
- Prepares and distributes year-end tax statements for childcare payments made during the year.
Education/Skill Requirements:
