The Ellsworth Early Care and Education Center, located on Avery Lane, is seeking an assistant preschool teacher. This is a 40-hour-per-week full year position. 


  • Assists the preschool teacher to plan and implement an early childhood education program for children in accordance with agency practices, policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for promoting school readiness, parent engagement and ensuring the health and safety of children in our care.
  • Performs under the direction of the preschool teacher to ensure program operations are carried out in a manner supportive of the agency goals and intended program outcomes. 

Education and Experience:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of experience in a preschool classroom setting required

DCP is seeking to hire an Assistant Preschool Teacher to work in the Flaherty Early Care and Education Center in Machias. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week, 51 weeks per year).


  • Assist the preschool teacher to plan and implement an early childhood education program for children in accordance with agency practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Promote school readiness, parent engagement and ensuring the health and safety of children in our care.
  • Perform under the direction of the Lead Teacher to ensure program operations are carried out in a manner supportive of the DCP goals and intended program outcomes.

Education and Experience:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate Degree in early childhood education preferred.
  • Minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or a state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA or are enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years of the time of hire.

DCP is seeking a full-time Caregiver I-III to work at our Early Care and Education Center in Calais. The Caregiver I-III is responsible for planning and implementing an early childhood education program for infants and toddlers in accordance with agency policies, procedures, and practices. Responsible for promoting school readiness, parent engagement and ensuring the health and safety of children in our care. Performs under the direction of the Center Coordinator or Caregiver III to ensure program operations are carried out in a manner supportive of DCP goals and intended program outcomes. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor. Some evening and weekend work, travel and occasional overnight travel will be necessary.


  • Successfully assists in the implementation of High Scope curriculum fully utilizing agency resources and feedback from content area specialists.
  • Ensures all classroom practices are developmentally appropriate and meaningful to children’s learning.
  • Tracks and plans classroom experiences utilizing data from CORAdvantage ensuring timely and complete ongoing child assessment. Content Area Domains
  • Provides a welcoming environment for parents at the center and encourages and fosters parent engagement in children’s school readiness. Works with parents to set realistic long and short term goals fostering their growth and financial independence.
  • Participates in the identification of children with disabilities. Works with Child Development Services (CDS) to develop and implement an Individual Family Service Plan/Individual Education Plan (IFSP/IEP) for identified children. Links parents of children with disabilities to community resources.
  • Works in partnership with classroom team to ensure recommendations of content area specialists, mental health consultants, and special needs providers are implemented.

Downeast Community Partners has a public service opportunity available through AmeriCorps for a Food Security Coordinator VISTA Volunteer. The Food Security Coordinator will become a member of VISTA’s AmeriCorps Ending Hunger Program. They will help to build the capacity of the Downeast Community Partners’ food and nutrition initiatives. The Housing Stability staff provides direct support, outreach, information, and education to individuals/families. Collaborates with other programs within DCP as well as other community partners.  Ensures that all areas of the program’s service area is covered equitably. Ensures adherence to all aspects and conditions of the grants/funding sources.

Infant/Toddler Caregiver for the Ellsworth Early Care & Education Program, located at 18 Avery Lane.

This is a full-time year round position.

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for developing meaningful relationships with parents and their young children that will enhance the bond between parent and child.
  • Also responsible to plan and implement, in partnership with families, a responsive curriculum and classroom environment that promotes optimal growth and development of infants and toddlers in a full-day, full-year program.
  • Must have at least 12 months experience working with infants/toddlers in a childcare facility.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by 1/1/2022.

DCP has a janitorial position available at the Flaherty Center—116 O’Brien Avenue, Machias. This is a year-round position, 10 hours per week permanently with another 15 hours per week temporarily.

Permanent: 10 hours of cleaning are in the evening after the Center has closed for the day.
Temporary: 15 hours are during the day when staff and children are present.


  • Cleaning the entire childcare center area of the building, including classrooms, bathrooms, hallways, ramps and entryways.
  • Cleaning materials are provided.

Location: Ellsworth, Maine


DCP is seeking a part-time janitorial technician for the Ellsworth Early Care and Education Center located at 18 Avery Lane, Ellsworth. This is a year round position, 15 hours per week. Cleaning materials are provided. Hours of cleaning are in the evening after childcare has closed for the day.


  • Perform janitorial, maintenance and yard work functions at the Early Care and Education Center on a daily basis. Work needs to be completed after child care service hours.
  • Perform a thorough cleaning of the agency facility, including classrooms, hallways and entrance.
  • Gather and dispose of trash
  • Wet mop, buff, strip, wax, and polish floors as needed  
  • Clean and disinfect bathrooms
  • Shampoo rugs and furniture as directed by supervisor
  • Clean vents, fixtures, and high dust windows and doorframes
  • Move furniture and other heavy objects as required
  • Perform daily inspection of the facility and grounds for health and safety hazards, and report findings to the center coordinator
  • Maintain an adequate supply of cleaning products and paper goods in coordination with center coordinator
  • Other duties as assigned by the center coordinator.

Location: Hancock and Washington counties

This position offers a sign on bonus of $1,000 paid in two lump sums; half after 90 days of work and the other half after 120 days of work.

We are seeking part-time drivers in the following areas Machias, Milbridge, Calais, Eastport, and Ellsworth. We provide transportation for low-income people, the elderly, as well as the general public. 

Our vehicles are easy to operate and require no special license, just a good driving record and a desire to provide safe and pleasant transportation to the people we serve.

Flexible schedules are available.

Candidates must have a clean driving record, pass a criminal and child protective background check, meet drug and alcohol testing requirements, and not have an active record on the System for Award Management (SAM) website.

Driver can be an entry level job position this is an employment opportunity. 

Location: Ellsworth Elementary/Middle School

This position has a $250 sign-on bonus to be paid 90 after hire.

We have an opening for a part-time (25 hours per week) Program Aide in our Pre-K/Head Start at EEMS. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in being part of an outstanding classroom team supporting the growth and development of preschool children. This position is responsible for assisting teaching staff in carrying out group and individual activities in the early childhood development program. Performs under the direction of the classroom lead teacher to ensure successful classroom experiences for all children. Work hours within the EEMS school schedule – perfect position for parents looking to work while their child or children are in school!




Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Some experience working with groups of young children required.

DCP is seeking a part-time program aide (15 hours per week/40 weeks per year) to work in our Early Care and Education location at Trenton Elementary School. The program aide assists teaching staff in carrying out group and individual activities in the early childhood development program and carries out all duties in a manner supportive of the Executive Director’s administration of Downeast Community Partners. 



  • Becomes familiar with the physical, intellectual, social and emotional characteristics of individual children.
  • Guides children through daily routines, creating a safe, healthy environment while providing experiences that build children’s enthusiasm and self-esteem for learning.
  • Participates in curriculum development as directed.
  • Assists staff in involving parents in the program and participates in parent involvement activities when appropriate.
  • Assists in handling special care concerns relating to preschoolers as directed.
  • Participates in basic nutrition and sanitation activities as directed.
  • Supports center staff in all center activities.

Downeast Community Partners is seeking a full-time Receptionist/Administrative Assistant to work in our Bucksport Road Office. 

Pay range: $14.70 - $16.90

The Receptionist/Administrative Assistant will be responsible for providing prompt, courteous service to clients, customers, visitors and public on the telephone or in person regarding all services offered by DCP.  The Receptionist/Administrative Assistant will operate a multi-line telephone system, assist with scheduling appointments for various programs using a computer and process incoming and outgoing mail for the agency. The Receptionist/Administrative Assistant will use computer programs such as email, Word, and Excel.


  • Previous positive experience with customer service via telephone and/or email as well as
  • in-person.
  • Previous experience as an administrative assistant frequently using a variety of computer programs.

DCP is seeking to hire a full-time Staff Accountant. The Staff Accountant position provides support for the CFO, and Senior Leadership in accordance with established fiscal procedures.  This position works regularly with internal fiscal and programmatic staff, and Senior Leadership.  The Staff Accountant will be responsible for DCP’s Accounts Receivable processes, DCP’s Insurance renewal application preparation, assisting in the preparation of monthly and quarterly contract financial reports as needed, calculating quarterly PTO liabilities, maintaining a variety of spreadsheets key to the operations of multiple DCP Departments.  This position serves a backup role for the Accounts Payable and Payroll Fiscal Specialists during their absences.



  • Works closely with other Agency Departments to ensure accurate coding and billing of invoices.
  • In cooperation with the CACFP (Child and Adult Food Program) Manager, ensures the accuracy of the monthly transfer & processing of the CACFP via a 3rd party software program and the AP module of the accounting software.
  • Calculates and enters Agency’s quarterly PTO liability into General Ledger.
  • Maintains AR Module of the accounting software through accurate entry of Client data, monthly reconciliation of AR balances to actual.
  • Accurately enters Agency’s contract payments, childcare parent fee activities, and other agency revenues into the accounting software.
  • Prepares contract related billings and submits to respective agencies (i.e., Maine Housing, CSBG).
  • Initiates Head Start funds drawdown from Federal Payment System after CFO provides amount of funds to request.
  • Maintains the Agency’s Childcare Payment log for shared use by teachers and the Enrollment Specialist for the ECE Department. 
  • Monitors and addresses overdue childcare accounts.  Works with parents in establishing Payment Arrangements to get unpaid balances back to current status.
  • Calculates and prepares timely billings to DHHS for childcare subsidies, tracks Agency internal childcare subsidies.
  • Participates in annual audit and/or funder monitoring as needed by CFO.
  • Assists CFO in various aspects of annual budget creation and entry into General Ledger.
  • Tracks and verifies Childcare Parent travel subsidies.
  • Prepares and distributes year-end tax statements for childcare payments made during the year.

Education/Skill Requirements:

  • Ability to comprehend and interpret rule, regulations, and procedures.
  • Ability to perform general mathematical computations, compute ratios, and interpret graphic information.
  • Computer proficiency, including familiarity with spreadsheet and word processing software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively; organize, prioritize, and plan work related tasks.
  • Two years or more experience in accounting.
